Is is the jewel of winegrowing in Friuli. They say that it was already well-known and appreciated in ancient Rome, although its golden age was probably towards the end of the 18th century, when Count Fabio Asquini exported a grand total of over 100,000 bottles all over Europe, to grace the princely tables of London, Paris, Amsterdam, Russia and many German towns.
